There is much to learn about the consequence of getting too close to sin. Lot, who is described as righteous pitched his tent towards Sodom, then moved into Sodom, then as described in Genesis, Lot sat in the gate of Sodom, indicating he was a recognized leader in the city. Lot lost his riches, part of his family including his wife and paid a great price for getting too close to Sodom.
