These last 30 or more years, my wife and I have been attending church of God services and keeping the Sabbath. We were baptized in a pool in Corona in 1984. Something happened in our lives to make us change our way of looking at life, how we were living, what we thought and what motivated us. Being led to read parts of the bible, I obviously did not understand much, but I was hooked. I was getting worried about world events, having never been baptized, and what I will call, “The Curse of Deuteronomy”. There was and is still a sense of immediate need to take action. There was and still is motivational fear. I discovered the blessings and cursing chapters in the Book of Deuteronomy and that they were related to world events and living a right or wrong way of life, but that I do not need to worry, now as a converted person, because Jesus Christ took that curse away from me. Blessings: (Deuteronomy 28:1 NIV)  If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. Curses: Deuteronomy 27:26 (Deuteronomy 28:47 NIV) (Cursed) Because you did not serve the LORD your God joyfully and gladly in the time of prosperity, (Galatians 3:13 NIV)  Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree." (from Deuteronomy 21:21-23)
