Matthew 28:1 describes the incident where the two Mary's approach the tomb on the day following the weekly sabbath only to find the tomb to be empty. We're going to see that there are two ways this verse is interpreted. The Mainstream Christian view is to simply see the dawn on the first day of the week which, henceforth, becomes Easter Sunday. The view, through the lens of biblical law however, sees this as an annual event which begins the count of seven sabbaths towards Pentecost; the literal translation being "... the first of the sabbaths."
