Throughout the world, we can see a general belief that as "long as one worships with a sincere heart," God will accept just about any form and timing of worship. But is this belief supported by God's own teaching in the Holy Scripture?

Sermon Notes

A partial list of notes and Scriptures:

IDOL Worship is very common in the world...

Is THIS what worship of the TRUE GOD really is?
Some people really THINK this is actual worship of God!!

Psalms 29:1 Psalms 29:1Give to the LORD, O you mighty, give to the LORD glory and strength.
American King James Version×
Praise the LORD, you heavenly beings; praise his glory and power.
Psalms 29:2 Psalms 29:2Give to the LORD the glory due to his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.
American King James Version×
Praise the LORD's glorious name; bow down before the Holy One when he appears. GNB

WHAT IS "WORSHIP" anyway?
Are you here worshipping God? Heb. Saka.  Press yourself down. To depress. To prostrate... to humble yourself down before GOD and His greatness.

What pleases God in worship?
Many falsely worship God... we must know how to do it HIS way?
Do you feel secure that you are worshiping GOD in your life?

Some think NO ONE can tell another how to worship. That all can find their own way and it is all OK.

Joh 4:9  Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
Joh 4:10  Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
Joh 4:11  The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?
Joh 4:12  Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?

Joh 4:19  The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.
Joh 4:20  Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.
Joh 4:21  Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.
Joh 4:22  Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
Joh 4:23  But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
Joh 4:24  God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

SO, can Worship be defined and what exactly PLEASES GOD?
If asked what is it "to worship in spirit and in truth"??  Could you answer?

Matthew 23:27 Matthew 23:27Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you are like to white washed sepulchers, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.

American King James Version×

TRUE religion and worship of God is not from the "teeth out"... it is from WITHIN, from DEEP IN THE HEART.

The Pharisees lacked in Judgement, Mercy, and Faith.  "Easy to keep the letter of the Law".

2Sa 6:13  And it was so, that when they that bare the ark of the LORD had gone six paces, he sacrificed oxen and fatlings.

2Sa 6:16  And as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal Saul's daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart.

"In Spirit" does not have to do in Form... but as a full expression of what we have in our heart for HIM. And get rid of the venomous hatred that is in the world.

Luk 7:37  And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,
Luk 7:38  And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
Luk 7:39  Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.
Luk 7:40  And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.
Luk 7:41  There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.
Luk 7:42  And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?
Luk 7:43  Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.
Luk 7:44  And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.
Luk 7:45  Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.
Luk 7:46  My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment.
Luk 7:47  Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.
Luk 7:48  And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.

This woman understood how MUCH she was being forgiven from the DEPTHS of her being.
This is the heart of worship... NEVER Forgetting HOW MUCH GOD has done for us.
When we truly respect someone, there is a great deal of difference on how we treat them.

A poem that illustrates what happens when ONE COMES TO ONESelf:
Prayer of Cyrus Brown

http://www.bartleby.com/380/poem/214.html

The Prayer of Cyrus Brown
By Sam Walter Foss (1858–1911)

“THE PROPER way for a man to pray,”

  Said Deacon Lemuel Keyes,

“And the only proper attitude,

  Is down upon his knees.”

“No, I should say the way to pray,”
        5
  Said Reverend Doctor Wise,

“Is standing straight, with outstretched arms,

  And rapt and upturned eyes.”

“Oh no; no, no,” said Elder Slow,

  “Such posture is too proud:
        10
A man should pray with eyes fast closed

  And head contritely bowed.”

“It seems to me his hands should be

  Austerely clasped in front,

With both thumbs pointing toward the ground,”
        15
  Said Reverend Doctor Blunt.

“Las’ year I fell in Hodgkin’s well

  Head first,” said Cyrus Brown,

“With both my heels a-stickin’ up,

  My head a-p’inting down;
        20

“An’ I made a prayer right then an’ there—

  Best prayer I ever said,

The prayingest prayer I ever prayed,

  A-standing on my head.”

What does "worshiping in TRUTH" have to do with it?
Samaritans worshiped what they did not know.
Many think the TRUTH is not really important, sincerity is what matters.
BUT... many are "sincerely" wrong.
