The symbolism connected to the Day of Atonement given 3,000 years ago helps to reveal Satan's fate. The Azazel goat who is escorted to the wilderness is a type of what will happen to Satan when he is locked away for a thousand years during the reign of Christ. But what ultimately is Satan's fate?

When Satan is released from the bottomless pit after the Millennium, he orchestrates the final human rebellion. God dramatically brings this to an end by raining fire down from heaven. Then the Bible clearly states Satan is to be cast into the Lake of Fire (Rev 20:7-10). Verse 10 “The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.” This is the last place in the Bible where Satan’s fate is mentioned. It says he will be there forever. The Greek literally means for all time. Satan’s torment mentioned here cannot be physical since Satan is an eternal spirit being. While God is omnipotent and can do what he chooses sometimes He chooses to do nothing. There is no indication in the Bible that Satan will be turned into flesh or will die. Furthermore, Satan would not be tormented forever if he was somehow put to death. This torment is likely mental. By the time he is put away permanently he will have lost all that was important to him - his position as the god of this world (2 Cor. 4:4) and his rulership over the kingdoms of the earth Gal 1:4 1John 5:19
