This sermon addresses in some detail who God the Father is. We know God the Father is supreme ruler over the entire universe, everything in the heavens and the earth is subject to Him. We know God the Father is spirit and possesses immortality. He has perfect righteous character and is the source or every good blessing. God the Father is the Father of seven things: 1) The Father of all things as stated in 1Cor. 8:6 2) The Father of Spirits as stated in Heb.12:9. He not only is Spirit but He created spirits such as angels. 3) The Father of Lights as mentioned in James 1:17. He not only created light but His people are the light of the world. 4) The Father of Jesus Christ. Rom. 15:6-7 identifies the Father as the father of Jesus Christ. There is a very close relationship between the Father and Jesus Christ. 5) The Father of Mercies and God of Comfort. 2Cor. 1:3-4 shows that God comforts us in our trials and is very merciful. 6) The Father of Glory. He is a glorified spirit being and wants to share that same glory with His called-out ones. Notice Eph. 1:17 7) God of Love – Love is the one word that truly describes the character of God the Father. Refer to 1John 4:8 The Father initiates our salvation by first drawing us to Him. Then He ultimately changes us to spirit and glorifies us as He is glorified. It’s necessary to pray to the Father as Christ did in His prayers to the Father.
