A Thief in the Night

The apostle Paul writes, “Concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape” (1 Thessalonians 5:1-3). Bible prophecy shows us God controls history and the destiny of nations. God determines when nations rise and fall. Now what could this mean for America and today’s great powers?

Today’s world could change virtually overnight. It’s happened before and the Bible tells us it will happen again. But you can understand and not be surprised by dramatic changes in world events.

God's Word contains many prophecies about dangerous and deadly events that will devastate the world in the days leading up the return of Jesus Christ. It also has words of serious warning to those who believe God and have ears to hear. Notice what God tells us to do, considering the seriousness of the times in which we live.

Jesus said that events leading up to His return would take most people by surprise. They will be like people in Noah's day who continued their daily routines thinking life would go on as usual.

Many Bible prophecies deal with the time that appears to lie immediately before us—the end of the age of the rule of Satan the devil over the world.

Pompeii's ruins tell a stark and heartrending story. One day Pompeii was a thriving, lively city; the next it was a steaming mound of smoldering volcanic ash. Does Pompeii's tragic tale hold lessons for us today?

In fulfilling His overall purpose, God has brought nations to their knees with one quick unexpected strike. He overthrew Babylon in one night through the Persian army. Egypt was crippled when its army went to the bottom of the Red Sea. Could America's global dominance end in similar fashion?
