Preaching the Gospel, Preparing a People
1 John 2:22 “Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and Son.
1 John 4:3 “and every spirit that does not confess Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God and this is the spirit of the Antichrist.”
2 John 7 “For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.”
1 John 2:18 “Little children, it is the last hour; and you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antchrists have come by which we know that it is the last hour.”
These are the only scriptures that use the term “antichrist” and from scripture you can deduce that the antichrist is a religious figure or someone who, at the very least, denies the Father and the Son, however it does not say he will be a government ruler.
On a side note though, the Pope has both legal, executive and judicial powers over the Vatican City, so therefore is a government ruler. He also claims to be God or Christ, so in essence claims rulership of the world, but does not have world power.
Thanks, Sydney! I very much agree with you.
