Mr. Petty in his comments above about Mary the mother of Jesus and the belief she was conceived without inherited, original sin from Adam is the Roman Catholic doctrine of the immaculate conception. Scripture does not teach this. But it does tell us through the words of the angel Gabriel that all generations [of Christians] would call her "Blessed." Because she is the mother of the eternal Son of God--very God himself according to John, chapter one . She has always been venerated (honored) by orthodox Christians as the Mother of God the Son. Herbert W. Armstrong did not believe that Jesus Christ was fully God and fully man when He walked on earth. So someone having the Armstrong theology could not understand this. The author after quoting Exodus comes to the conclusion that use of images of anything in worship is idolatry. Exodus forbids the worship of false gods, for there is and always will be only one, true God. The problem with Petty's reading is that Israel was commanded to make an image of the cherubim on the ark of the covenant. Surely Mr. Petty would not teach that was idolatry. Roman and Orthodox Christians honor Mary as Mother of God, the Son, Christ.
