I enjoyed the article and learned quite a bit. I am relatively new to UCG and there is a lot more learning to come. Thank you for this article. It has helped a great deal, specially when I have to explain why we, my wife and I, act the way we act when it comes to dates such as Christmas and New Year celebrations.

James, I agree with your assessment. I have listened to many sermons and sermonettes regarding voting. These are all the speaker's opinions. None of them satisfy me. I vote. And will continue to do so as long as in my estimation I am voting for the candidate that best aligns with my beliefs. As Plato once stated, "If you do not take an interest in the affairs of your government, then you are doomed to live under the rule of fools." On a different subject, I am also retired from the US Army. I know the church's doctrine on that also and I don't buy it. None the less I continue to observe the Sabbath and the Holy Days. God have Mercy on me if I am wrong. But I believe that some body has to defend this great country that God has given us. There are many patriots in the UCG. I know, I have conversations with them all the time.I never heard anyone in UCG make reference to Ecclesiastics 3. But I am hopeful.

Based on what you preached, we are to obey the governments appointed over us. What do we do if or when that government tells us that we are not allow to worship on the Sabbath? If you do not take an interest in the affairs of your government, then you are doomed to live under the rule of fools. Plato

Sean, Please read Isaiah 40:22 "It is He that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in... This verse makes reference to "He who sitteth above the circle of the earth.." Clearly to me, it makes reference to a round earth.
