Preaching the Gospel, Preparing a People
You might want to add the circumstance of infant baptism: Having been raised in the Greek Orthodox Church, I was baptized when I was a baby. We are instructed in Acts 2:38, we are to repent before being baptized. As a baby does not understand repentance, the baptism is not valid. After God called me as an adult I understood this and was subsequently re-baptized.
We are also to forgive the individual (Mat. 6:14, 15). We can know we have done so we when can fulfill what Jesus Christ exhorted us to do in Mat. 5:43 and 44, no longer feeling the pain of the hurt .
After praying for wisdom in dealing with this very situation, I was led to the answer in an archived Day of Atonement sermon. Referencing Lev. 23:27 regarding fasting being afflicting one’s soul, he stated that the elderly and those who were ill were already afflicted.
Under the circumstances, that was a great relief!
