Authentic

How can we tell if our traditions defy God?

Transcript

[Steve Myers] This time of the year, we could be confronted with the traditions of all the celebrations that go on around the world versus what is truth. And a word that comes to my mind is this very word: “authentic”. What is authentic? What is real? What is most important when it comes to worshipping God?

You know, Christ was all about authentic. He lived the way, He taught the way. He showed the way for each of us. And yet so many times people discount his example. They discount what He did, and yet He continually draws us to what’s most important and what is authentic. And when I think of that, I think of that time just before the crucifixion when Christ was focused in on His mission, what His purpose was, and what He was about to do as he sacrificed His life. And when you come to that point, it’s all authentic. And He said this very thing in John 17:17. Talk about authentic. Here’s what He said: “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.”

You see, Christ was concerned about us, He was concerned about His disciples, and He was concerned that they be sanctified, that they be set apart, that they would be separate from all the confusing, sinful ways of the world. And so He asked God to set each of us apart. And how was God to do that? Well, he prayed that God do it authentically, that God do it by His truth, the word of God.

This book, the Bible, is authentic. It is truth. So when it comes to your life, whenever it comes down to a question – should I keep the traditions of this world? Should I do the add-ons? Should I do the things that maybe are copies? Should I do the counterfeits? Well, Christ said be authentic. Look to this book. And be sanctified by its truth.

That’s BT Daily. We’ll see you next time.
