What does the Boy Scout motto and a day mentioned in the Bible have in common?

Transcript

[Steve Myers] When I was growing up, I was in the boy scouts. And the motto of the boy scouts is "Be Prepared". Little did I know that that also has a biblical significance. There's an interesting passage in Mark 15:42. Here's what it says, "Now the evening had come because it was the preparation day, that is, the day before the Sabbath." Now, you might say, well, what's the significance of that?

Well, it's important for us today. We know back in Leviticus it tells us to keep the Sabbath from evening to evening. So from Friday sunset to Saturday sunset is God's holy Sabbath day. And we're to keep that. Now this preparation day means we should be ready to come to the Sabbath. We should be ready to worship God. We should be prepared, just like a good boy scout, spiritually today we should be prepared to worship God. And so, are you ready to worship God when it comes to a Sabbath day?

That means we should have things ready. We should have our house ready. We should have our meals ready. We should have our kids ready. We should have ourselves ready to be able to come and worship God.

So, if we're going to properly observe the Sabbath, it's a good thing to be prepared.

I think one important reference about that is found in the book of Revelation. And it's in Revelation 19:7, because ultimately the significance of the preparation day also involves the return of Jesus Christ. And when Christ returns, it says here that His bride, or His wife, has made herself ready.

And so perhaps that day before the Sabbath is a good reminder that we've got to get ourselves spiritually ready for the return of Christ. So, as we prepare ourselves physically to come together to worship God, we prepare ourselves spiritually for the return of Christ. So, that's an important concept. Be prepared.

That's BT Daily. We'll see you next time.
