Monday, March 4, 2013 (All day)

Most people with smartphones load them up with dozens of apps. Even the Bible has become an "app". But the Bible is far more than just an app.

[Darris McNeely] Last night I was watching the History Channel, their new series, "The Bible." They had a commercial on during one of the breaks and it was for a Bible app on your smartphone that you can use to access the entire Bible, both the Old Testament and the New Testament. And the tag line at the end of the commercial really caught my attention. They said, "The Bible is an app." We all know what apps are—the applications that we have on our smartphones that do just about anything for us today. I have one on my phone that is a level that will level out a small piece of work that you're doing. But of course an app, or an application for the Bible. It kind of struck me wrong because as it was going along, "The Bible is an app" and I thought no, it's not an app just like something else we might have on our smartphone. The Bible is really more than an app.

[Steve Myers] It's a lot more than just an app. It's great that it is an app that you can use on your phone.

[Darris McNeely] Yes.

[Steve Myers] But if you just put it in the same categories with every other app that's on your phone, like you put it with the Angry Birds or some silly game like that, then we miss the whole point of the power of God's word.

[Darris McNeely] Yes, I was thinking, you know, the Bible is no more an app or like the other apps, any more than the actual book, the printed version of the Bible is just like the other books of history or philosophy that you might have on your shelf. The Bible is the word of God. The Bible is the instruction book God sent along for His creation, and really the Bible is to be applied. And if you approach the Bible as something that is to be applied in your everyday life, then you're coming closer to understand what the Bible truly is. It's far more than just an app.

[Steve Myers] But it's not just an app. It's not just a book. In fact Christ Himself said this in John 6:63. It says, "The words that I speak to you are spirit and they are life." So it's not just another set of words. It's not just another book. It's not just another app. It's really the app isn't it?

[Darris McNeely] The app of life. That's BT Daily . Join us next time.

The Bible App, I have had it for several years, that app has been the best application my phone has ever had, I can listen as I drive, read in a waiting room or a line, finding myself able to have God's Word everywhere I go has been priceless in my walk with Jesus. It was that app that helped me hear the Word as I would read along, with lots of rewinds that opened the Truth I was seeking while attending the Church that created this app, it was time spent in this app, that prompted me to remove many apps from my phone. Every morning there is a scripture that is used and applied daily to my life, All day a reminder of what is good, and what is pure, things uplifting to think on rather than the stress of the day and do you remember where that verse was you can search the bible quickly. I praise God that His Word has taken a place in the hands of many people, and people that do not read well or see well can hear the Word of God. My life is a witness that the Word of God does not return void! So it was the help of the App that helped show where the movie was off in so many places. 82,869,453 downloads and counting. Yes the Bible is more than an app!

When we consider how important it is for us to eat food everyday to sustain our physical condition, how much more important is it to "eat" daily of that "Bread" that gives us spiritual life, the Word of God. May God give us our daily bread - both physical and spiritual bread. May we daily say to God:

"When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart's delight..." (Jeremiah 15: 16)
