Are you the same person no matter the circumstances? What is your goal?

Transcript

[Steve Myers] We have a challenge as God's people to strive to be the same person. Are we consistent in our behavior?  It's a challenge that God has given us and that we try to implement in our lives to be that person that's consistent, that's the same, that's godly at all times. So let's think about that for a minute. Now, if you're holding in your hand a Bible, are you the same person when you're holding in your hand your remote, your remote control for your television? Are you the same person with both of those things in your hand? Now how about this: how about if you're in a hotel room? Say you travel a lot. 500 miles from your home. Are you the same person in that hotel room as you are in your family room? Is that the same person, or is there a difference there? How about this: how about when you're reading? Let's say you're reading your Bible. Are you the same person as the one who's browsing the internet?

Those are the challenges that we face today. Are we the same person, let's say at work, maybe at the break room at work versus the same person fellowshipping at church? You know God's word reminds us over and over again what matters is integrity. What matters is honesty. What matters is faithfulness. And so that's the kind of person we need to be: consistently godly. In fact, there's a great passage in 1 Corinthians 5:6. In the Message it says this, "Your flippant, callous arrogance in these things bother me. You pass it off as a small thing, but it's anything but that. Yeast, too, is a small thing, but it works its way through the whole batch of bread dough pretty fast. So get rid of this yeast. Our true identity is flat and plain, not puffed up with the wrong kind of ingredient."

It goes on in verse 8, "So let's live out our part in the feast - not raised up bread, swollen with the yeast of evil, but as flat bread, simple, genuine, unpretentious" (1 Corinthians 5:6-8). You see that's a person who is sincere. That is a person who lives by the truth. Now God expects us to be genuine. So let's do that. Let's be the person we'll say that we'll be. Let's be the same person no matter the circumstances. And when we are that, we will be who we claim to be.

That's BT Daily. We'll see you next time.
