Spiritual Free Agency

Are you an individual who can step up and fill the gap?

Transcript

[Steve Myers] Today's the opening day of NFL Free Agency. Of course, that is the time that those who have contracts that have run out can take offers from other teams. And other teams are out to get the prime players, the best players that will fill the holes on their team. You know, what is their team missing and who is going to fill those voids—whether it's a big guy to do some blocking or maybe a quarterback that can throw that ball around. Everybody's looking for that one player that can take them to the Promised Land.

[Darris McNeely] And it costs a lot of money when those contracts come up and when people start shopping themselves around. One of the lessons of free agency is that anything can happen. Almost no one is indispensable when it comes to football and the national football league in America especially. But there's a pretty important spiritual lesson to learn in terms of at least being an individual that can step in, fill the gap and do the job that needs to be done at the time.

[Steve Myers] Yeah, I think when you think about what is our value, how important are we to the team and would someone want us on their team? It reminded me of a passage in 1 Corinthians 16 where Paul is coming to the conclusion of this letter and he's telling the brethren to watch and stand fast in the faith, be brave and be strong. (1 Corinthians 16:13-18). You know, if we're going to be a good team member, we've got to be those kinds of things. He says let all you do be done in love. You know, as God's people, as Christians, we've got to be fulfilling those kinds of characteristics so that somebody wants us on their team. Then as he goes on he says I'm glad about some of my teammates, he mentions Stephanas and Fortunatus, and Achaicus, and it says, "For what was lacking on your part they supplied" (1 Corinthians 16:17). And so think about that for a second. If you were in spiritual free agency, who would want you on their team? You know, do they want you? Would you be one they'd say "We've got to have him. We've got to have that kind of an individual on our team."

[Darris McNeely] Spiritual free agency when it comes from God's word and applies to our spiritual lives involves hard work, dedication, commitment, and faith. Those are some of the essential qualities to becoming a vital, valuable, and important free agent in God's team.

[Steve Myers] That's BT Daily. We'll see you next time.
