Churches around the world use apps and social media to spread their message. Do these methods do a complete job?

[Darris McNeely] Would Jesus Christ have an app? Would He have a Facebook page? Would He have a Twitter account? How about an internet site? It's an interesting question. It was asked recently in a USA Today article that talked about all the various methods that churches in the United States are using to put their message out and to attract followers and believers. 70% of congregations it seems have a website. Over 40% use social media of some sort to convey their message. If you're Roman Catholic, you can download an app for confession. If you're Jewish, you can keep the Seder on the internet without having to go anywhere to be with people and to be in an actual, physical service. So it's an interesting situation. An interesting question, does internet access and just worshipping, fellowshipping, or somehow having a spiritual experience in cyber space fill all the needs?

[Steve Myers] Well, I think that's a great question. In a past time, it was just TV that I could just watch TV and have some type of a relationship with God and with others. And I think that falls very short, especially when you compare that to what the Bible says. John 1:14 it says very clearly, "The Word became flesh and dwelt among us." Jesus Christ was God in the flesh. And why did He come down? Why did He become a Man and walk the earth? I think because there was something significant there, that He was with us, He became a Man and so that we could—it says here—"beheld His glory"—so we could have a relationship with God and understand God that much more fully.

[Darris McNeely] God felt that He needed an actual physical relationship with the creation—that's why He became flesh. And while Christ walked the earth, what did He do? How did He preach His message of the Kingdom of God? Well, He met people at the well where they were. He went into the temple where people were. He went into the synagogues and the places where they worship. And He even used the means of the time—the stories of parables—to convey His message, which was a very popular form of teaching and communication. So, in His own day when He was here in the flesh, He used the media that was available to Him and the means to contact people to get the message of the Kingdom of God out.

[Steve Myers] Yeah and God says we're supposed to assemble together. We're supposed to be together and there's a power in coming together and worshipping God. The Apostle Paul said in Hebrews 10:25 he said, "Do not forsake the assembling of ourselves together." And so there's an importance in coming together as the body so that we can worship God, and we can have a relationship with each other. And so that's an important thing.

[Darris McNeely] Thousands of people have signed up for instance on our BeyondToday.tv link for the Kingdom of God Bible Seminars that we've been holding over the months in cities around the United States and the world. We find that thousands sign up, but not everyone comes. Are you one of those people who maybe clicked on and indicated—well it might be interesting and just thinking that experience of even clicking on and saying I'll attend or I'll watch it online is enough to really get the full message and impact of the Kingdom of God. You might want to ask yourself a second time whether you might need something more. And that is the physical contact just like God needed with people to fully understand the message of the Kingdom of God.

[Steve Myers] That's BT Daily. We'll see you next time.
