We are in the midst of a holy season, the Days of Unleavened Bread. For seven days we follow the instruction of the Apostle Paul to “…purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ our Passover, was sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.” (I Corinthians 5:7,8)

There is something wonderful and refreshing during this period. The seven day festival is a commemoration of the ressurection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Keeping these days reminds of that Christ lives His life in us everyday through the Holy Spirit. This is a far more complete way to understand the truth of Christ’s triumph over sin and death than any other human devised tradition.

Each day paints a complete picture of God’s initial work of salvation. We come to God for mercy and forgiveness of sin. He applies Christ’s sacrifice. We choose to no longer continue in sin, as a slave to sin, but freely choose to become a “slave to righteousness”.

It is not easy. There war many obstacles waiting each day for us. But that is another reason to observe these days. By this we are encouraged that Christ is there to help us overcome.
