ABC Student Body Leaders Announced

The student leaders are (asterisk means committee head): Student Officers: Christopher Salva, student body president; Naomi Shoemaker, secretary; Marty Miller, treasurer; Rob Oswald, monitor; and Nick Lamoureux, assistant monitor. Social Activities Committee: Michael Ball*, Karen Claunch*, Corey Chambers and Gerald Vera. Service Projects: Eric Jeffords*, Laura Jeffords*, Devon McCaulley and Jarrett McCollam. Kitchen Care: Denice Schmidt* and Eileen Sharkey. ABC Message Board: Sally Hambleton* and Heather Kern. ABC Times: Linda Merrick* and Gina Morelli. Music Coordinators for ABC Chorale: Matt Beech*, Gina Morelli* and Jason O'Connor. Technical Support: Roy Sutherland*, Michael Ball and Eric Jeffords. Each student leader will have the opportunity to acquire leadership skills though the process of being head of a committee. Having a student body leadership at ABC will also help give the students structure and to help deal with student issues. Selecting the candidates is a two-step process, and it starts with the students. Students had the opportunity to put down a name of a classmate they believe would be good for each position on a ballot. In the first month of classes students were encouraged to get to know all of their new classmates to see who would best fit each position. After the students selected the candidates, the ballots were reviewed by the ABC Administration Team. The team consists of Gary Antion, Jim Franks, David Johnson, Clyde Kilough, Ralph Levy, David Register and Lyle Welty. Some positions were appointed by the faculty based on the students' skills. Music coordinators and technical support were among those appointed. Music coordinators were appointed with suggestions from Kenneth Shoemaker, the chorale director. The student body leaders will meet every Wednesday during lunch in the conference room for a planning meeting. Meetings will be reported on Thursdays during forum where announcements, activities, projects and leadership issues will be addressed to the class. Mr. Register is impressed with this year's leaders. He said the leaders have shown good examples and leadership skills. "In UCG we like to work in teams. We are looking forward to working with this team of student leaders to have a successful year here at ABC," said Mr. Register. UN
