Assessing an adversary or a dangerous situation takes wisdom, thoughtfulness and the ability to make decisions. Jesus stated in Luke 14:28-33 that we are to count the cost, like a king preparing to begin a battle. Paul said, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12).

We cannot fight effectively against evil if we have doubts and fears that assail us. When we determine to fight, it ought to be with all our might. That is what assures us of victory. The apostle Paul knew how to fight spiritually, and his struggle was effective and efficient even though he had hardships. All of the followers of God are in a fight—let us lay aside every distraction and win this war against Satan.
