He Strengthens Me
Jesus and Elijah are examples of that in Scripture (Luke 22:43, 1 Kings 19:5-8). That strengthening did not remove the trial they were facing, but meant that God had done His part and those He helped were now able to do theirs. He has given mankind a limited amount of ability, talent, gifts to work with. But He has not given us enough to function successfully without Him in our lives. When Israel was led into the desert, they could not have survived without Him.
In the darkest part of the prison Corrie ten Boom noted, “It is not my ability, but my response to God’s ability that counts.” God’s ability has no limits and never fails. Our response to Him is what marks us as people of faith and trust or people that will fail. Peter responded by asking if he too could walk on the water (Matthew 14:28-32). Peter was still learning about faith, and Jesus held him up when he tried to do the impossible. Peter tried, God’s ability won. God strengthens each and every one of us if we are willing to open our lives to Him.
