A story from the Gospels brings a lesson about procrastination.

Transcript

[Steve Myers] Do you have a challenge of putting things off? Maybe you're a little like me and sometimes have a tendency to procrastinate. There's an inspiring scripture that can help us to begin to overcome that. It's in the book of Matthew.

In Matthew chapter 4, here we have in...beginning in verse 19, Christ is calling His disciples. And as He engages them, here He's talking to Peter, Simon Peter and his brother Andrew. And He says to them, in verse 19, "Follow me and I'll make you fishers of men." Now, what's interesting is their reaction. In verse 20, it says, "They immediately left their nets and followed Him." And then as the story goes on, He sees Zebedee and John. They're in the boat with their father. Christ talks to them. And in verse 22, what was their reaction? "Immediately, they left the boat and their father and followed Him." Now, I read through that passage, and what an amazing reaction.

Can you imagine going about your daily job, whatever your responsibility may be, and here is Christ and immediately their reaction. They didn't put it off. They didn't wait. They didn't consider it and think about it for a long term. Right away, they reacted and did what was best. That's what I wanna do. I want to be like that. I wanna straightaway when I recognize the fact that I need to be doing this, I need to be acting this way, I need to be more Christ-like, immediately, I need to let it be done. And so this is a great opportunity for all of us that we can study these types of passages that talk about being intentional, getting things done, especially when it comes to the spiritual things, don't wait around. Don't postpone it. Don't procrastinate. When it comes to doing what's right, follow Christ immediately.

That's BT Daily. We'll see you next time.
