[Darris McNeely] "Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually... But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord" (Genesis 6:5-8). This weekend the movie Noah is going to be hitting American theaters, it's a big release, it's been talked about, it's been panned, it's been viewed, and most people haven't even seen it already. And so I thought I'd talk about it today. I hope to see it this weekend myself, and then come back on Monday and give a more accurate review, at least from having firsthand experience about it. But in what I have read about it, it is going to be very, very interesting.

The movie's been sixteen years in the making, the budget – over $300 million to make this, and certainly they're marketing it, and it looks like it's going to be an interesting movie. I don't expect it to be accurate, according to the Biblical record. I expect that the writers and the directors have taken a great deal of artistic license with the story that we have from the Bible about Noah. In one sense, you look at what the Bible does tell us about Noah. It's condensed in about four chapters or less in the Bible. There's a few references in the New Testament to the event, it tells us a lot, and then it sometimes doesn't tell us many of the things that we would like to know. But it is one of the most compelling stories in the Bible, and now this movie is going to bring it out in a way that is going to generate some talk and some interest.

I would hope that people would at least, the very least, be drawn to what the Bible says, and enter into a discussion about the movie, and certainly, what the Bible really does say. Because when you do look at what we are told in the Bible, then the bigger themes that are there really do compel us to ask some serious questions about our life today, and our world today, and where we fit in, and the lessons God wants us to learn from that.

Don't ever go to any movie that is going to be made about the Bible and expect that you're going to find the literal truth in every way portrayed there. It just hasn't happened, not even with the good old classics from the good old days, like The Ten Commandments with Charlton Heston that we all grew up with, or many of us did. While that was a big blockbuster movie, there were certain parts of it that they took license with, as well. It's just the nature of the game and this version of Noah will do the same, even though it is going to be jazzed up and hyper with all of the computer graphics and the techniques that are used today in cinematography. And that will make it very interesting, but the more – the most interesting aspect of it is the story itself. I'll see the movie, and then I'll come back on Monday and I'll tell you what I think about it, and maybe we can go a little bit deeper into the story of Noah from the Word of God, and compare it and learn exactly what God wants us to.

That's BT Daily. Join us next time.
