What is the personal cost, to you, of the death of the Son of God?

Transcript

[Darris McNeely] Anything of true value—there's a cost. When we come to the Passover service and we begin to think about the life and the death of Jesus Christ as our Passover, as the Lamb of God. We have to understand that there is a cost. We've talked about the fact that there is a cost in that it was the life of the Son of God that was required to pay the penalty for all of human sin. But what about the cost to you and I of the Passover? What is it that we should understand and think about when we come to consider ourselves before this awesome sacrifice of Jesus Christ as the Passover Lamb?

[Steve Myers] It's interesting when you think about part of the reflection of the Passover says we proclaim His death until He comes. Part of that is certainly connected to the payment for our sin. But it's also interesting that there has to be a proclamation or a recognition in who we are. And if you were to go over to Romans 12:1 it makes this vital connection between this sacrifice of Christ and the cost for each of us personally. In Romans 12:1 it says, "I beseech you therefore brethren by the mercies of God that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service." So, you see, when we understand the Passover, that has to have a monumental effect on each of our lives personally—so that we become that sacrifice, that living sacrifice, not some dead lamb that's offered up to God, but that our lives are a reflection of that living faith that we need to have to exhibit the character of Christ.

[Darris McNeely]  And for us to be a living sacrifice requires a cost. And that is a cost that we must bear every day when we really stop to consider the commitment, the dedication, and the motivation to live a life modeled after the example of Jesus Christ to allow Christ to live His life within us. That takes a tremendous dedication and it's not taken lightly. And so when we come to the cost of the Passover to us personally, Christ has already paid the penalty for our sins—nothing we could do could ever accomplish that, you can never pay that debt—but it took that life so that we could come and have that appreciation. But God expects of us that we become a living sacrifice. We should always count the cost. There is a heavy cost. It's a lifetime of commitment and dedication.

[Steve Myers] That's BT Daily. We'll see you next time.
