They name towns, mountains and monuments to their name as though their honor will last forever (Psalm 49:10-12). Somehow we want to leave an indelible mark somewhere on earth to show we have been there and are remembered. Some with power and wealth have built pyramids designed to remember themselves—only to be followed by another powerful person determined to remove all signs of the previous ruler.

We cannot leave an indelible mark with our lives here on Earth. In time we will be forgotten (Psalm 49:17). We sometimes say we will love someone forever or that we will never forget them—but those are wishful thoughts that we express. The truth is that with rare exceptions, the passing of a generation is soon forgotten. There is a place where an indelible mark is placed that will last forever. It is in the book of remembrance and book of life written by God (Exodus 32:32-33). That is the place to leave your mark.
