How Can I Know That God Really Cares About Me?

We appear small and insignificant in the universe. Compared to deep space, massive oceans and the astonishing array of life forms on earth, we might think ourselves unimportant. Even in a big crowd of people we can feel inconsequential. It is natural to wonder: “Does God really care about me? Does He even know I exist?”

The answer is, “Yes, He does.” He knows about your life. He is aware of what happens to you.

Though we cannot understand how, God is deeply involved in the lives of His people.

From our perspective, it is rather hard to understand how such a big God can be aware of the little details of our lives. How can the One who created everything be mindful of us?

It takes some faith, but you can know beyond doubt that the eternal God of the universe knows who you are. You can be assured that He cares for all that you do or think. Here are a few things to ponder that can help you know God really cares about you.

First, consider how unique your life is. There is no place found in the vastness of the universe like this planet. Here you are given a life, a span of time, on a planet like no other. Among all the people who have ever lived and died, not one of them is like you. The uniqueness of your creation is itself reason to believe that God has His eyes on you.

Also, look at the verses of Psalm 139 to see how intimately God knows His people and their needs. “O LORD, You have searched me and known me,” wrote King David. “You know my sitting down and my rising up; you understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, O LORD, You know it altogether” (Psalms 139:1-4).

Though we cannot understand how, God is deeply involved in the lives of His people. David realized this was beyond his understanding, and he wrote, “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, it is high, I cannot attain it” (Psalms 139:6). Nevertheless, he concluded: “How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand” (Psalms 139:17-18).

You cannot even number the grains of sand you can hold in your fist. How much more does God know the one who trusts Him!

Consider the words of Jesus Christ who said, “Your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him” (Matthew 6:8). He tells us to: “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” (Matthew 6:26).

Scripture is abundantly clear that the heavenly, Creator God of the universe cares intimately for the one who looks to Him. Therefore, trust Him to show He cares about you and He will show you that He does.
