Council of Elders Meeting Report
May 18, 2011

At 9 a.m. Chairman Melvin Rhodes called the meeting to order and asked Mario Seiglie to lead the Council in the opening prayer. The initial items on the agenda included reviewing elder ordinations and credentialing, plus annual reviews of the president and secretary. Consequently, Mr. Rhodes immediately moved to shift the Council into executive session. After concluding the above executive session business the Council resumed open session at 4:30 pm.

Survey of elder's wives:

President Dennis Luker reviewed a council study paper produced 10 years ago regarding present and future needs of the ladies to be effective wives, mothers and homemakers. In that report there were a number of suggested actions. A few of those actions have been performed but most have not been acted upon.

Mr. Luker further mentioned that at the January/February conference a number of elder's wives got together to gather input from the ladies on these issues, and that we got a lot of constructive feedback. He also mentioned that we want to do this right and move forwards appropriately.

He then added that communication to the elder's wives does not always reach all the wives, and he raised the need to have a more effective medium to communicate to the elder's wives. Mrs. Luker also expounded the need of this communication with the elder's wives.

After some discussion on the matter, Mr. John Elliott proposed and Mr. Scott Ashley seconded the following proposal:

Whereas, the Council of Elders desires to establish a means for elders' wives to communicate among themselves,
Now therefore, it is hereby resolved that, Ministerial and Member Services is to develop a means for online networking and communication for elders' wives of UCGIA.

The Council approved unanimously this proposal.

Gratitude for service performed:

Council Chairman Melvin Rhodes thanked Aaron and Michelle Dean for their service to the Council and presented a crystal gift as a token of appreciation for their years of service.

Mr. Rhodes also thanked Vic and Beverley Kubik (Mrs. Kubik was absent) for their service and also presented them a gift card.

The council continued the meeting in executive session at 6 p.m., concluding business shortly before 7 p.m.

-End-
