Council of Elders Videoconference Report

A special meeting of the Council of Elders (Council) was conducted via video conference. The meeting was called to order at 4:32 p.m. Eastern and opened with prayer. All 12 Council members, the secretary and the reporter were present when the meeting was called to order. President Shabi joined the meeting a few minutes later.

This special video meeting was scheduled by the Council for the purpose of the Doctrine Committee’s presentation of the final appendices (D and E) and additional edits to Appendix C of the Hebrew Calendar study paper.

Chairman Martin opened with a few personal comments, thanking the Doctrine Committee for their work on getting this completed prior to the upcoming General Conference of Elders annual meeting. Chairman Martin then turned the floor over to the Doctrine Committee chairman, Mario Seiglie.

Mr. Seiglie began by presenting the suggested edits to Appendix C.4.3 and the addition of a chart containing the percentage of the fullness of the moon on the eve of the First Day of Unleavened Bread and the First Day of the Feast of Tabernacles at moonrise in Jerusalem. He then opened the floor for comments and suggestions.

At the request of Mr. Seiglie, Jorge de Campos explained why this edit was suggested. Mr. Seiglie also requested John Miller explain the details of the chart. After a few comments and revisions, Chairman Martin moved to accept Appendix C.4.3 as edited along with the addition of the chart. The document was approved unanimously.

Mr. Seiglie then lead a discussion on the suggested edits to Appendix C.4.2 – “The rules of postponement in the Hebrew calendar.”. After a few comments and revisions, Chairman Martin moved to accept Appendix C.4.2 as edited. The document was approved unanimously.

Mr. Seiglie then presented Appendix D. Comments and edits were made as Mr. Seiglie read through the document. Once complete, he then opened the floor for any additional comments and suggestions. After a thorough discussion of the document, Chairman Martin moved to accept Appendix D as edited, except for section D.1.5, which the Doctrine Committee will further edit. The motion was approved unanimously.

At 8:12 p.m. the Council closed with prayer and adjourned.
