6. Local Atlanta and Buford Church Fund. Based on what’s taken place the last few years (the pandemic), a while back we established a (local) Atlanta/Buford Church Fund. This local church fund does not take the place of the tithes and offerings commanded by God which are sent to Home Office (Leviticus 27:30Malachi 3:9-10). Instead, this fund represents needs we have locally that fall outside what we request each quarter from Home Office. If you would like to donate to local causes, you may do so by giving funds to Bob McCurdy, our local accountant. Thank you. [Note - Any local donation checks should be made to - "United Church of God - Atlanta"]

As we offered in this week’s Home Office Update, the following write up is in honor of Bill Brown following his death last Sabbath. I thank Wendy Englehardt for generating this obituary.

William (Bill) Brown died on Saturday, February 15, 2025, in Peachtree City, Georgia. Bill was born in Billings, Montana on December 2, 1935. His family moved to Southern California when he was 2 years old. He grew up in Santa Monica, California. After graduating from UCLA, he enlisted in the Army in 1959 and was sent to Northern Italy until he completed his military service in the Army Intelligence. Bill met the love of his life, Paola Bogaro, while serving in Northern Italy and they married in October 1961.

Bill worked for Douglas Aircraft in Santa Monica, California and moved to Huntington Beach, California when the company received the government contract to build a portion of the Saturn Program. He worked on the Galileo Program at the University of Michigan and later worked at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia. He retired from Georgia Tech after 17 years of teaching.

Bill and Paola were not blessed with children, but they were happily married for over 63 years. They attended the WCG and were baptized together on September 3, 1972. Bill and Paola were ordained deacon and deaconess in the early days of UCG. Bill was ordained an elder on June 4, 2011, in Atlanta, Georgia. Cards and notes are welcome. Their address is:

Memory Verse

Exodus 15:24-26 And the people complained against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” 25 So he cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree. When he cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet. There He made a statute and an ordinance for them, and there He tested them, 26 and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.” (Institution of a Healing Covenant)
