Longsuffering is one of those concepts that feels foreign to us. When we are told to “suffer long” it might make us cringe a bit.  We live in a culture that celebrates instant gratification, quick results and immediate rewards. But longsuffering is about enduring hardship, pain, and uncertainty for the sake of something good in the long term. It’s not just waiting; it’s persevering through trials with faith and trust in God's timing.

Joseph’s story is a perfect example of this. Here was a young man who had every reason to feel hopeless and abandoned. Betrayed by his own brothers, sold into slavery, falsely imprisoned—Joseph endured years of suffering and setback. And yet, through all of it, he maintained his faith in God’s plan.

Longsuffering isn’t easy, and it rarely makes sense in the moment. But when we trust in God’s plan, even when things seem unfair or uncertain, we can find peace in knowing that our trials aren’t wasted. Learn more on patience this week from resources from Chuck Smith and Don Hooser.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this at our next gathering.

The story of Joseph is a familiar one. A young man, deeply loved and blessed with incredible gifts, sees his life changed in an instant. Betrayed, abused, falsely imprisoned, and forgotten, Joseph must have wondered, “What have I done to deserve this?” Yet, that’s not the story we hear about Joseph. Instead, we are told of his unwavering faith, patience, and peace in the face of hardship. In this sermon, Chuck Smith explores Joseph’s remarkable patience and the valuable lessons we can learn from his journey.

The impatiens flower gets its name from its seemingly impatient nature. When its seed pods are fully matured, a simple touch causes them to burst, scattering seeds several yards away. This striking image beautifully illustrates the importance of longsuffering—one of the fruits of God’s Spirit—reminding us of the power of patience in life’s pressing moments.
