Dendrochronology, the study of tree rings, reveals a lot about a tree’s history—its growth, struggles and environment. Rings tell us if the tree thrived, faced drought, or endured a fire or insect infestation. If you were a tree, what would your rings say about your spiritual growth? Have you experienced a period of drought or faced trials?

As we reflect on the year and look forward to our new year, Peter’s words in 2 Peter 1:3-9 remind us that God has given us everything we need to grow spiritually. We're encouraged to add to our faith virtues like self-control, perseverance and love. Growth may not always be obvious at first, but over time, it becomes clear.

Dr. Donald Ward’s article, “Choose to Grow,” offers great insights on how to be intentional about spiritual, mental and emotional growth. Darris McNeely’s sermon highlights the importance of finding and understanding God’s great purpose in your life.  These resources are worth the time as we settle into the new year and set goals for growth.

This season, let's commit to nurturing our spiritual lives, drawing strength from God’s Word and allowing our growth to be evident to all.
