Good evening brethren and Happy Sabbath!

Unity

How often do we think about the subject of unity? As those in Charlotte and Hickory heard last week, and those in Columbia will hear tomorrow, it’s a subject that’s been on my mind recently.

I think it’s safe to say we all want unity. With husbands and wives, family, friends, the church, our school, workplace and even the world. But where to start?

Where Does Unity Begin?

Some focus on bringing unity to the world. The march for peace, essays posted on the web, etc., all pleading the world for unity. But will that achieve it?

If history is any indicator, the answer is no. The Bible also shows that while mankind mind achieve moments of harmony now and then, real unity will not come until Jesus Christ returns.

Unity Starts Small

The good news is, you don’t have to wait until then to begin your pursuit of unity. You can begin it now and it starts very small - with you and God.

It doesn’t start with the world coming to peace and then trickling down to the rest of us. It comes by us drawing closer to God and being in harmony with him. From there, we can grow it outward to the other areas of our lives.

Unity is a worthwhile pursuit. While we might not see the level of it we dream of until Christ’s return, it doesn’t mean we can’t start achieving it to some degree now. Pursue unity. And when you do, remember - start small!
