Letter from Dan Preston – April 4, 2025
Good evening brethren and happy Sabbath! Just a quick reminder we are NOT having potlucks tomorrow in any of the three congregations, just snacks.
Passover
As you are no doubt aware, baptized members of the body of Christ will be taking the Passover one week from tonight. As a reminder, the service will be held in our regular meeting halls and begin after sunset at 8 PM. Doors will open at 7:45, so if you arrive before then and do not have duties, please wait in your car until the doors open.
As we wind down these last few days of preparation for the Passover, there’s many things to consider. One of course is examining ourselves and looking for areas where we’ve fallen short and need to work on. But we should also note areas where we have seen growth, and give thanks!
First always, a disciple
As I personally prepare for the Passover, I find it easy to get carried away with all the planning - making sure halls are rented, supplies and equipment are in place, shut-ins are taken care of etc. Those things need to be taken care of, but as I do so, I have to remember something I was told when I first went into the ministry: First always, a disciple.
No matter what my responsibilities might be as a Pastor, Feast Coordinator, Camp Staffer, etc., I must remember that before all of those things, I am a disciple of Jesus Christ. I am to follow and learn from Him, imitating His ways always. In that respect, my journey is no different than anyone else’s.
Being a disciple
So, what should a disciple do? Well, as mentioned, it means following and imitating Jesus Christ. This is a primary reason why we partake of the symbols of Passover - foot washing, the bread and wine. He did those things as an example for us to follow. And while these are important and have deep spiritual meaning, there is more to following Him than that.
Doing what Christ did is one thing. Thinking as He thought is a whole other challenge. Tomorrow, we are going to look at the last few days of Christ’s life and see if we can learn from both He and the 12 disciples a little more about what a disciple should be thinking!
