Letter from Dan Preston – August 1, 2025

No Pin

Greetings all and happy Sabbath!  A quick reminder that we will have a potluck in all three congregations tomorrow.

Ah, to be young again…

There’s something about the summer that always brings back childhood memories. Being outside, chowing down on fresh produce from the garden and road trips to and fro.

Childhood memories are important. They connect the past to the present and are a good way to remember past joys and perhaps even loved ones no longer with us.  They also remind us just how important childhood is.

What else do you remember?

Aside from just the fun stuff, childhood memories contain important lessons.  Perhaps an important piece of life advice from grandma when helping make cookies in the kitchen. Or a piece of family history shared around the grill that gave you insight to understanding your own parents.  I’m sure each of us could share countless stories about those nuggets of wisdom we picked up during our childhood, passed on from those who loved and cared about us.

The importance of childhood

Childhood is important because a lot of who we are today comes from those precious formative years. The values we have in life, or personality, and even our faith and beliefs.

Whether you have children at home or not, we need to understand just how important childhood is. Perhaps more to the point, we need to understand how important our role is in the lives of the children we know.

When we interact and have relationships with young people, we have an opportunity to be an example to them and help shape who they will become in the future. Never forget the responsibility we have to be a good influence, and help shape a child’s future in a positive way they will never forget!
