Letter from Dan Preston – August 29, 2025
Good evening brethren and Happy Sabbath!
Making plans
There are lots of points of view when it comes to making plans in life. Some like to plan things to the nth degree. Others go along without a plan and ‘go where life takes them.’ And then there’s every spectrum in between, which is where most of us fall.
Of course, taking a high level view, there’s the old saying, “If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans!”
Change of plans
Have you ever been set and ready to do something, only to have to suddenly change your plans? Maybe you were going to cut the grass and it rained. Maybe on the way to a movie and a traffic jam made you miss your show time. We’ve all faced minor inconveniences from time to time.
Then there are the change of plans that are of a more serious nature. Loss of a job, a major health trial or emotional upheaval of some sort. Things that used to seem like a sure plan or idea disappeared quickly, forcing us to make a radical change of plans.
What does our future hold?
When we face an abrupt change of plans, it can sometimes be difficult to accept. Our plans, our hopes, our dreams, can go out the window suddenly, leaving us reeling. In times like these, consider what God told Jeremiah to tell the captives of Babylon, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11).
There’s nothing wrong with having plans, of course, but we should always remember that God has plans too. Sometimes we aren’t aware of them, and even when we are, we might not understand them right away. But we can always know that the plans He has for us are made with love and a fantastic future hope in mind!
