Letter from Dan Preston – December 13, 2024
Good evening brethren and happy Sabbath! Just a reminder, there will be a potluck in Columbia tomorrow.
Service
What do you think of when you think of service? It might be helping an old lady across the street. Maybe it’s helping a friend move. Perhaps you taking a meal to the sick.
All these are acts of service. A simple definition might be something done to help someone else out, for which we expect nothing in return.
Why Serve?
Some wonder why we should serve others. The answer is very simple: As Christians, we are to be like Christ, and Christ of course was the greatest servant.
Matthew 20v27-28, “And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
What greater service could there be than giving your life for someone? (Compare John 15:13).
Being a Better Servant
Christ served all of mankind by giving His life for all. Certainly, none of us are worthy or capable of doing this, but that doesn’t mean there is no way in which we can serve.
As we discussed in the sermon last week in Charlotte and Hickory, and those on the webcast and in Columbia will hear tomorrow, there are a few things we can do to be better servants. But the question is ultimately an introspective one. So, how can YOU be a better servant?
