Letter from Dan Preston – December 19, 2025
Good evening brethren and Happy Sabbath! Just a reminder that we will have Sabbath School after services in all three congregations tomorrow.
Good advice
Have you ever been contemplating a big decision, not quite sure what to do when someone gave you a sound piece of advice? Something really valuable that helped you make a good decision?
Advice like that is truly a blessing. Maybe it’s about a financial decision such as buying a car, house or appliance. Perhaps it pertains to a personal relationship. Whatever it was, the advice you received helped you make a good decision that you might not have made otherwise.
Where does it come from?
So where does good advice to make good decisions come from? Generally speaking, you could say it comes from wisdom. Wisdom comes from experience. And experience often comes from bad advice and bad decisions!
Fortunately, we can often learn from other’s mistakes and yield to their wisdom. But that’s not the only way we can get wisdom and good advice.
Wise counsel
While the Bible doesn’t use the term ‘good advice,’ it does refer to good counsel and certainly admonishes us to seek wisdom. That wisdom of course, comes from above, “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy” (James 3:17).
Receiving good advice is a blessing. When we have the opportunity to give wise counsel to others, make sure that we base it off of more than just our own experience and thoughts, but on pure and peaceable wisdom from God.
