No Pin

Greetings brethren and happy Sabbath!

Whatcha scared of?

Travel back in time for a moment to when you were a child. Perhaps you were just learning to ride a bike and some other kids in the neighborhood were a little ahead of you. With no training wheels, perhaps they chided you, “What are you scared of?” as they sped away.

Perhaps stirred by pride to show them wrong, you asked your dad to take off the training wheels and help you learn to ride solo. Within a few tries, you are on your way and now asking yourself, “What was I scared of?”

Growing up, growing fears

You’re probably not afraid to ride a bike anymore, but I’m willing to be you probably still have some fears. Fear isn’t all bad, some of it is quite healthy. But have you ever considered what an unhealthy fear does to us? Simply put, it holds us back.

For example, if you’re afraid of embarrassing yourself on the dance floor, you’ll like stay off it. That’s your personal choice of course, but that fear kept you from doing something you might have enjoyed. Perhaps it even kept you from meeting and getting to know other people.

What has fear stopped you from doing?

Not meeting new people is not a sin. But has fear ever caused you to sin? It certainly can. If we are afraid to speak the truth because of the repercussions we might face, we just bore false witness.

Whether fear causes sin or not, it is something worth overcoming. In tomorrow’s message, we’ll look more closely at why fear is such a problem, and what we can do to overcome it!
