Letter from Dan Preston – January 16, 2026

No Pin

Good evening and happy Sabbath! Just a reminder that we will have Sabbath school in all three congregations tomorrow.

A Big Day for Our Family

A big day occurred for our family today. My oldest son bought his first house and not coincidentally, my youngest son sold his first house. It’s an exciting time in both of their lives and as their father, it’s exciting for me to see them both have these personal successes.

Buying a house of course brings with it the act of moving. That, I am less excited about… Sure, it’s a good thing, but it’s also a big chore.

Moving Day

In my experiences with moving, they are always ‘big’ days. There’s a lot of physical work, there’s usually a few laughs, a few stressful moments and at the end, a big relief from having accomplished a big task. It all adds up to a ‘big’ day, as they say.

In a way, it’s not dissimilar from our Christian walk. When we come to repentance, get baptized and receive God’s Holy Spirit, it’s a big day. But it’s followed up by the chore of living a changed life.

Our Big Day

In a way, our entire life is a ‘big’ day. It’s exciting for sure, and we certainly should look forward to living it, but it can be a bit of a chore at times.

Just like moving into a new house is worth all the work, so is putting in the effort of living a life yielded to God’s Spirit. It’s not easy, there will moments of stress and it can be exhausting, but there are lots of laughs too. And once we complete our race in this lifetime, if we have remained faithful, we will most certainly have completed a big task. Let’s get excited about our big day!
