Letter from Dan Preston – July 10, 2026
Good evening brethren and happy Sabbath!
A combination of factors
This time of year, it’s fairly common to have a thunderstorm in the afternoon. The combination of high humidity and heat combine to produce them on a very regular basis. At our house, it’s typically between 4 and 5 PM.
That combination led to another combination effect this afternoon. When the thunderstorm blew through, the winds picked up, the power went out and so did my air conditioning. Thankfully it was only off a couple of hours and came back on in time for me to write this letter, as well as start cooling the house back down.
Loss of power
You don’t think a lot about power until you don’t have it. It keeps air conditioners running, fans turning and ice making in the fridge. Take it away for a little while and it’s very noticeable just how much we rely on power.
The same can be said for other forms of power as well. Many people who have held positions at work or in the military express how upon retirement, not having the authority they once had leaves them feeling weak, or even empty.
Never powerless
Fortunately, there is one kind of power we don’t have to worry about losing. The power God grants us through His Holy Spirit. Obviously, we must respond to it and never deny it, but short of doing those things, it is always at our disposal.
As various factors build on one another and the storms of life roll by, let’s make sure we tap into this amazing power God grants us. With God’s spirit, we are never powerless!
