Letter from Dan Preston – July 11, 2025
Greetings all and Happy Sabbath! Just a quick reminder we will have a potluck in Columbia tomorrow along with a Ladies Tea.
Good tired
When we arrived home shortly after midnight last Sunday night/Monday morning, I have to admit that I was quite tired. I didn’t bother to unpack the van, just went right into the house and straight to bed. While being with 120+ of God’s teens and 70+ Adults (most of whom are decades younger than I am) is a wonderful experience, it does wear me out.
Of course, it’s a ‘good tired’ as the say. Something akin to how you might feel if you worked all day cleaning up the yard or house. Yeah, you feel exhausted, but you know you accomplished something important.
Teaching and Learning
While a big part of my job there at camp is teaching, I do a lot of learning too. I teach teens how to safely use firearms, but I learn about them, their lives and their journey toward the Kingdom. It has been such an awesome gift to get to know so many young people through our camp program over the years. It creates and strengthens relationships that go far beyond camp, and has served not only me, but the church as a whole very well.
In addition to riflery, I help teach Christian Living, as well as answer dozens of miscellaneous questions that come up during the week such as, “When should I start counseling for baptism?” or “Why don’t women preach at church?” While these questions might seem easy to answer to us as adults, it’s always a learning experience to understand what is on our teen’s minds and what sort of things they think about.
Building Upon the Foundation
This year’s overall Christian Living theme was ‘Build on THE Foundation.’ As you might surmise, it points out that we need to be building our house on the Chief Cornerstone, Jesus Christ.
In tomorrow’s message, I look forward to reviewing this amazing them with you. In it, you will not only see the awesome lessons taught to our young people at camp, but re-affirm in your mind how important it is to build your house upon the Rock!
