Letter from Dan Preston – June 20, 2025

No Pin

Good evening brethren and happy Sabbath!

Why do you do what you do?

Have you ever asked yourself that question? Perhaps you’ve found yourself doing something and realize you’ve done it for years a particular way, but for no particular reason. Something mundane, such as folding the laundry, cutting the grass or comb your hair.

More often than not, we do things a certain way because that’s how we were taught. Maybe by parents, maybe by teachers or perhaps in an instructional video on the internet.  Other times though, we might not know how to do something, so we have to research and find out the best way.

How did you learn about the Sabbath?

Let’s take the thought of why we do what we do and now apply it to the Sabbath.  For some, like me, it is all I’ve ever known.  I was taught by my parents and have been keeping it since before I can remember.

For some of you, you learned about the Sabbath. You had been going to church on Sunday for years, only to come to the point where you realized the Bible doesn’t support that.  You did some research, discovered the Sabbath, and began looking for a church that did the same.

Why do yo keep the Sabbath?

No matter how you learned about the Sabbath, there’s another, deeper question to consider.  Why do you keep it?  Not just, why do you keep it on Saturday, but why do you keep it at all?

That’s a profound question and one worth asking. Tomorrow, we’ll do that and see if we can come up with a solid answer to this very important question!
