Letter from Dan Preston – June 26, 2026

No Pin

Good evening brethren and Happy Sabbath!

Is it going to storm?

As I write this note, I am looking out my office window. It’s hot and muggy, the perfect combination for a summer storm. Then again, it might just pass.

Who knows? Well, God, obviously. But my point is that the weather this time of year is highly unpredictable. We could get a heavy downpour any second, or we might not see rain for days.

Unpredictable

Solomon pointed out in Ecclesiastes 1:6, “The wind goes toward the south, and turns around to the north; The wind whirls about continually, and comes again on its circuit.” He alludes to the fact that no one really knows exactly what the weather is going to do.

Truth be told, this wisdom applies to more than just the weather. Animals, nations and even (perhaps especially?) people can be unpredictable at times.

What can you count on?

You probably know where I’m going with this question, but before we get there, let me change directions (like the wind!) and ask you to consider something: Can people count on you? Are you predictable? Not boring, but predictable. Can people expect you to be the person you say you are?

Back to the question of what can you count on. The only thing we can truly count on is God. People, animals, governments and whatever else you want to name can be unpredictable at times.

As obedient servants of the great and awesome God we can count on, let’s strive to be predictable people that others can trust in as well.
