Due to the corona virus pandemic there will be no services March 14 and 21. We are a local congregation of United Church of God, AIA. United Church of God is a large church with church plants all over the world. Here in the Henderson area we have the best of both worlds. We have the chance to grow in Christian love, concern and spirituality with a small congregation but also have the resources and opportunity to serve God nationally and internationally. Join us and find God's plan for YOU!
Groundhog Day falls on February 2 in the United States. This rather strange observance is a part of popular culture among many Americans and it centers on the idea of the groundhog coming out of its home to “predict” the weather.
We know that Groundhog Day is just an empty ritual…but wouldn’t it be nice to be able to predict future events BEFORE they happen? If we could do this then we could plan and prepare for whatever might happen.
For many Christians our faith is built upon the belief that we CAN know future events. These future events are revealed or predicted in the pages of the bible. In fact Jesus was verified as the messiah BASED on the predictions, or prophesies, of the writers of the books of the old testament.
Luke 24:44Luke 24:44And he said to them, These are the words which I spoke to you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. American King James Version× Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.”
Jesus prophesied, or predicted, many things about OUR future. He told us that mankind would eventually come to the edge of destruction and things will get so bad that we will NEED Jesus to return (Matthew 24:22Matthew 24:22And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened. American King James Version×).
He told us that on his return he would establish a new kingdom…a physical kingdom that will rule the world and then an eternal kingdom. His entire ministry was based upon the good news that he would establish HIS kingdom (Mark 1:14Mark 1:14Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, American King James Version×).
He told us that in order to ENTER into this kingdom we would have to walk the walk. Empty words and nice sounding platitudes won’t cut the mustard. We have to change our thoughts, our actions and our very lives in order to be a follower of Christ (Galatians 5:19-25Galatians 5:19-25 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, jealousies, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Contentions, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
American King James Version×).
We are here as a church to HELP you in your journey to God’s kingdom. This dedication to YOUR Christian life is fifty percent of the mission that Christ gave his church to do in his physical absence.
We know the future. We’re here to help those who want to turn to God, change their lives, and be part of God’s family in HIS kingdom.
