This is an observance we keep as a tradition based on Exodus 12:42. We keep it with a formal meal, not a seder (it's not the Passover), but sometimes including lamb and a salad (bitter herbs), and always including unleavened bread as it is bringing in the Holy Day known as the First Day of Unleavened Bread. Members of the congregation have their choice how, where, and whether to make this meal special. Many members have it in their own home. Some host others in their home. Others go to a restaurant to keep it, usually in a side room where there can be some privacy. Some read from Exodus 12, or another passage that has to do with putting leaven (which represents sin for the week of Unleavened Bread) out of our lives. Some make it special for children by having them put on a play representing the 10 plagues, or find a song about the season in some way, or even have a gift of a new toy or book that is church appropriate for them to use the next day in the Holy Day services.

This year, the congregation is again offering to host the Night to Be Much Observed dinner at the UCG Indianapolis church hall for all who are interested. Please contact our pastor right away if you would like to attend and have not yet signed up.
