Prayer Requests and Updates for April 22, 2023
Prayer Requests:
Evelyn Murphey is requesting prayers as she had a fall last week and they just identified that she has a compound fracture in her lower back. It is at the very lowest point of her back. When she is perfectly still, she doesn't have pain, but when she moves (getting up and down especially) she has excruciating pain, though she thinks it might be getting a little bit better. She also mentioned she has neuropathy in her legs. It is like they are asleep.

Nancy Peyton sent the following message, “I wish to thank the brethren for their love and support over the years that I lived in the area. I regret that I was not able to say farewell to everyone yet want to let you know that I am settling in well at my new residence in San Antonio. I am fortunate to have family, friends, and brethren in the area as I spent a big part of my life living in San Antonio. My new address is 230 W. Sunset Rd., #1231, San Antonio, TX, 78209. My phone number is (210) 888-1071. I hope to keep in touch and to see you, if you are ever able to come for a visit!"
From Jenee Zaydon: I am so sad to share that my Mom, Dianne McDonnell, completed the race Monday night. She is awaiting the trumpet to wake her up to a much better world. I am honored that I was able to be with her and my Dad these last two months. I will cherish all the precious memories we got to enjoy together. As we begin to feel the empty space in our hearts, I am so thankful that I know I will see her again. During this journey I have been so moved by the many lives that my parents have touched. Borrowing the description of one of my Mother's favorite women in the Bible, Deborah, I would say my Mom "arose as a Mother in Israel." (Judge 5:7) Her unconditional love for others has changed so many people’s lives. Seeing this up close has been so inspiring. The past weeks she was able to say
"goodbye, for now" to so many loved ones. I want to thank everyone who visited, called and prayed for her and our family during this most difficult time.
From Paul Kieffer, Regional Pastor, German-language region: After falling on February 4th, 2023, and breaking both bones in her lower right leg, Martina Budak had an operation the following Wednesday with two metal plates and 20 screws being used to repair the fracture. She was told that eight weeks of bed rest would be needed. She receives home health care three times a day and family members assist her as well. Last Thursday Martina was back in the hospital to have some of the screws removed. X-rays showed that the fracture has only healed minimally, so she was told that another six weeks of bed rest will be needed, which was very discouraging. Doctors told her that the fracture is healing unusually slowly because of her ALS condition, which she has had now for ten years. Martina really appreciates the cards and prayers and hopes her life can get back to normal sometime this summer.

From Galen Morrison: We request your continued prayers for God's intervention and guidance as Galen contends with pancreatic cancer. After a year of treatments, including chemotherapy, and highly directed MRI radiation, the plan is now for surgery on Monday, April 24th. This surgery is known in the medical community as a “big surgery” due to its complexity and length (up to 10 hours). There is an expected recovery in the hospital of 5-8 days, perhaps longer. Your prayers for God's direction on the surgical team so that all goes well and that my recovery time will have minimal pain and brief in duration. To all those who have written, texted, and called, please know every communication is a treasure to us and our family. We are not able to respond to everyone, but please know we treasure and count each one as expressing sincere, loving concern. Your prayers on our behalf are already being answered in that I am in a healthy state capable of handling the surgery. We are very grateful to God and for your ongoing love and prayers.
