Teaching English and Leadership in Chile - 2015

Good Works will be co-sponsoring a project with United Youth Corps in Santiago, Chile from July 12, 2015 until July 26, 2015.

We are seeking two individuals who are passionate about teaching, and are willing to stretch outside of their comfort zone. The project will consist of teaching English, leadership, and speech. The classes will be hosted by the local congregation and will be open to community members. Certifications in teaching, English, or speech are preferred, though not required. Those selected must have a positive recommendation from their pastor.

Once selected, applicants will be involved with planning activities for the project. Team members should be able to maintain a positive attitude and be able to adapt to a changing schedule. Proficiency in the Spanish language is preferred, but not a requirement.

COST:
Room, board and ground transportation will be provided by Good Works. Participants are expected to provide half their airfare costs and any extracurricular activities (costs will vary depending on location of origin). Scholarships may be made available based on need.

She has her bachelor's degree in English and master's degree in Clinical Counseling. Her passions include God's way of life, traveling, writing, helping people, cooking, and quilting.

Linda Dwornik grew up in Hammond, Indiana, near Chicago. She attended Purdue University Calumet where she studied Elementary Education and worked for her college newspaper as Production Manager and later Managing Editor. In 2008 she decided to take some time off from university to attend Ambassador Bible Center. After ABC she stayed in Cincinnati, Ohio, to finish her Bachelor of Science degree at University of Cincinnati. She graduated in 2011 with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She taught preschool for four years. In 2015 she decided to make a career change. She became the Managing Editor of Internal Publications at United Church of God for a few years. She now lives near Austin, Texas with her husband. She made another career change and is now a head start preschool teacher.

Shana Heslin is a baptised member of United Church of God. She is originally from the small town of Canberra, Australia but now attends the Melbourne East congregation. Shana has studied linguistics and is currently taking a Masters in Translation. By day, she teaches English as a second language, but sings classic ballads and reads poetry by night. Shana is passionate about languages and speaks French, Spanish and Catalan as well as her native dialect, Australian English. She aspires to a lifetime of teaching and translating, but remains wary of surprises if she is needed elsewhere.
