An Anniversary of Fire

1 minute read time

Little attention was given to the recent anniversary of the firebombing of the German city of Dresden. Yet in Germany it stirred the differences between those who want to rewrite history and those who still have a clear picture of the past. World News and Prophecy European correspondent Paul Kieffer has a comment about this anniversary here .

Unemployment
is a serious problems right now in Germany. It is at it highest since the end of World War II. Some conservative German politicians such as Edmund Stoiber like to point to this as a contributor to increasing popularity of right wing groups such as the NPD (National Democratic Party). Dresden is a center for this neo-Nazi party, hence the special interest being paid to the 60th anniversary of the fire bombing. High unemployment and right wing politics invite a comparison to Hitler's rise to power in 1933 during the collapse of the Weimar Republic. Chronic unemployment was a problem at that time.
