Bomb Blast in Pakistan

1 minute read time
A bomb has gone off in Islamabad, Pakistan in front of the Marriott Hotel. Dozens appear to have died and the building is on fire. This BBC report gives details. Pakistan has been a key supporter of America’s war on terror and recently obtained a new president. President Asif Ali Zardari had today told parliament he would not allow Pakistan’s territory be violated by terrorists or foreign powers fighting them. Earlier this month American ground troops had gone into Pakistan to attack terrorist forces. Zardari rules over a very precarious and fractious country. His wife, Benazir Bhutto was assasinated last December while running for the office he know occupies. Zardari himself is under a great deal of suspicion over past business dealings and the state of his own mental health. The real power in Paksistan, the army, does not like nor trust the man. Neither do they share the American view of the war on terror. If the country appears to be spinning out of control look for the army to step in and put one its own in charge. Pakistan is a nuclear armed nation. Its stability is a critical key to peace through the Islamic world. We don’t want those nukes falling into the wrong hands.
