Deadly Cargo Turned Back

1 minute read time

I commented last week that a Chinese boat carrying guns and rockets destined for the Zimbabwean army was turned back from South African ports.

This morning’s Financial Times reports that the ship is heading home. It seems that China wants no more bad publicity in advance of this summer’s Olympic games in Beijing. One hopes the bullets will run out.

Other African leaders are now putting pressure on Robert Mugabe to release the recent vote count, which many feel will show the defeat of his party.

It is time for African leaders to say “enough” to the barbaric reign of Mugabe. The people of Zimbabwe deserve better.
